![]() Lithium Titanate best yet 8/9 Special update on LifePo4 batteries here.8/4 Today, August 2026 a new technology is on the market and available for purchase now. It's called Lithium Titanate, "Ty tanAte" Some refer to it as the "pouch battery" although many Lithium type batteries are sold in pouches. What's so good about these batteries is that they last longer than LFP or LifePo4 - Lithium Iron Phosphate batteries by 2 to 5 times. They cost more than twice what a LFP battery does but I expect that to come down as the market catches up to demand. And they can be charged and discharged in wider temperature ranges than LFP or other types. Gone is the worry about too cold to charge, at least in area's where people live normally. So as we can see, battery technology continues to improve dramatically, especially in the last 2 years. We have Sodium Ion, and now Lithium Titanate, Wow folks! This is really something, we're talking cycle life in the 20,000 range and higher. LFP will be obsolete in a few years at this rate. But don't worry, the voltage output is compatible with your present inverters so you won't have to buy anything new for awhile. Right now I'm only aware of it being for sale with a Inverter made for this battery but looking at the cell voltage specs., it's just a matter of time to see new 48 volt battery packs using this technology. So, it you want the longest life, best temperature range of operation, this is your choice. I'd give it a few months for the prices to get better and see what happens. Like any new technology, there's usually some bug to work out, but so far, I haven't seen any. They are also very safe and similar to the LFP safety ratings, which in this case we just don't know enough to say more except what the manufacturers tell us. Still, I can't wait to get one and put it in service and try it out. R35solar.com |
